Audi is Planning on Launching a Smaller Sibling to the Audi R8..the Audi R4!

There are rumors circulating that Audi is working on a smaller mid-engined sports car to compete with other cars such as the Porsche Boxster. The mid-engined car could use a more powerful version of the company's 2.0L turbo and a turbocharged 2.5L in-line five, which would be in an RS model.

The car will be built on an all-new platform, but could still borrow other parts from their existing parts bin. One change from the Audi R8 is that the Audi R4 would not use lightweight aluminum, instead it would use a high-strength steel spaceframe for the chassis. The body panels would be aluminum and plastic.

It is rumored that if the car is produced it will be released at the end of 2009.

Noya:

What is with Audi aiming at Porsche? First the iconic 911 and now the Cayman?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Porsche AG hold a controlling interest in VW / Audi?

Danny:

I would be First in Line to Buy One the Entire Eng. of the R8 is far greater then a Porsche a
RS 2.0 R4 - If they could keep the
Price Down to Earth !

The TT is Priced to High I can get a BMW
Series 1 Twin Turbo Sports Car .

I would have to put Snow Tires on all four Corners !

Plus ,have a Separate Set of Rims for that !

BMW 306Hp and 295 Tq, just blows the Audi away !
Braking also !

Audi will most likely due a RS TT 280Hp 2.0L

That should only be an Eng. Up Grade -$2100.oo !

The R4 just like an R8 with say light weight
Brakes would have to slot in around $ 55-60,000.oo
Smaller Tires & Lighter Wheels etc. maybe 70,000.

Audi's R8 has about 4 yrs. booked sales then it
will Taper Off - the R4 would be a way to get Full Life Cycle Out of the Building Plant !
