Ford has finally taken the wraps off their next "crossover" the 2009 Ford Flex at the New York Auto Show. The new car is supposed to fill the void left by the deseased Ford Windstar/Freestar.
The car will be sold alongside the upcoming Taurus X and Edge crossovers.
According to Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas, "The new Ford Flex crossover is a game-changer. It's the first vehicle of its kind to combine seating for seven, interior spaciousness and surprising features with a striking design that looks great on the road and at home for today's modern American families."
The Flex will be powered by the new 3.5L V6 and will be connected to a 6-speed tranny. It will have 260hp and 245 lb.ft of torque.
At least the overall design of this car is a lot better than the minivans it replaced. It looks a lot like a Honda Element mated with a Scion xB. I don't understand why they need the Taurus X if they have this in their lineup.

I really don't know why Ford just can't stick with their new Taurus X and leave it at that. Considering That and the Explorer, there literally is no point in producing this. It is a boxier version of Taurus X, which people are bound to buy, but would you rather have a more modern looking vehicle or a vehicle left sadly in the 80's? I think the only thing that will keep people buying this is because of all the modern technology missing in the Taurus X and Explorer.

wow its a larger gen 1 scion xb! way to go ford first the germans now the japs. you guys are building copycat decent looking cars but 5 years down the road the scion that cost 10k less will be worth more. which car did ford make look like a older passat?? i bet once the 2009 corolla comes out ford will make a focus out of the old corolla.

I love the retro/modern style that Ford has done here. It's about time they game out with something with a fresh unique look.

I LOVED THE FORD FREESTAR VAN, I HAD 3 OF THEM NOW THAT MY LEASE IT UP, ALL YOU HAVE NOW IS THIS FORD FLEX THAT COST WAY TO MUCH, NOW I HAVE TO GO SHOP SOME WHERE ELSE AFTER BEING WITH FORD FOR 10 YEARS, BRING BACK THE FREESTAR!
