Lexus introduced its new 2008 Lexus LX570 to the world today at the New York Auto Show. The most notable cahnge besides its styling is the name change from LX470 to LX570.
This is due to the enlarged engine that is borrowed from the all-new Toyota Tundra. The engine has 381 hp and 401 lb.ft of torque. The engine is coupled with a six-speed automatic.
Other new additions to the SUV are the blind spot cameras that help with tight spots, a electro-hydraulic suspension that reduces body roll, power sliding rear seats, etc.
Other than the new more powerful engine, this SUV is still boring. For this price range I would rather buy a Range Rover. I was hoping that they would really come out with something striking to compete with the Escalades and Range Rovers, but this just falls short.

Besides boring, can you elaborate on how it falls short with the Escalades (if ever there was a monstrosity of a truck) and range rovers (neglected to mention which).
The additions forementioned make this a significant change from the previous model.
Toyotas and most japanese cars hardly can be viewed as exciting driving machines. This is a car geared for an upscale market (that probably wont drive offroad).
Your opinion would have been held higher if you considered comparing this SUV to the X5, Cayenne, or even FX45. Cadillac escalade... give me a break.

I think "striking" refers to the styling more than the abilities of the vehicle. The 'cruiser has always been up there with the Landrover as far as capability, but the styling has traditionally been a bit too dull for some people, apparently.
Why you need edgy styling in a utility vehicle is beyond me but there you go.

It may resemble a housebrick but Toyota Landcruisers (including this) put both the RangeRovers and Jeeps to shame when it come to tackling difficult terrain. That is why they are the best selling 4WDs in Australia .
Bulletproof reliability and terrain conquering engineering are taken for granted with the Toyotas.
No bull.

I love it when people bash Lexus for its really dull look. Lexus makes pretty damn good cars and the company is well managed. Lexus makes their cars conservatively styled because thats what their target demographic wants. If you're in charge of any company you realize that creating vehicles for your target demographic generally works out well because your customers continue to buy your car. Lexus does well because their target demographic prefers conservative styling with excellent reliability and decent performance.
Lexus isn't an auto enthusiast's marquis. They're the average conservative luxury vehicle buyer's marquis. As an auto enthusiast, sometimes its hard to believe that some people will buy a car even if its bland looking... Hard to believe isn't it!
My previous boss used to own a Land Rover LR3 and its design was quite bland IMHO. The LX570 look is just consistent with the rest of the bland Lexus lineup. It sells so Lexus won't change it. Why fix it when it ain't broke?

Most japanese cars boring?
I'm sorry if they dont have fins and ugly styling as most people without design sense see it.
Toyota/Lexus are conservative, but they sell vehicles, because of their target demographic... it just happens that someone willing to actually buy cars are high ion other aspects such as quality, reliability and engineering rather than those outrageuous styling that only adolescent boys are into... who happens to not be the market anyways since 90% of them are unting used cars from the 90s.... so why would Toyota, the world's most profitable everyday production car manufacturer say... cater for that market who cannot even afford new cars?.. they dont. There cars sell because they are targetted to the market that are iinto new cars.. Although I do wish they re-enter the sports market... which they do in the near future, but conquering the big market comes first...
Thats why they are profitable and the others are not.

As far as offroad goes Land Rover rules the roost by far, this coming from a person who has owned a land cruiser a range rover and a land rover discovery, all offroad manners aside, the only area where lexus outshines , is quality. Lexus has a squeaky clean reliability record and this is what many people look at, target demographic really has nothing to do with it because when lexus updated the RX many buyers opposed as sales slumped the first quarter, then they slowly picked up, I think that for a car that was redesigned its interior is really bland because at 70,000 i would expect to get more than a toyota interior, the colors look so "vanilla", they have overused that gray in their dashes to death, if some don't know what i am talking about look at the interior or any lexus from 1995-2007, the orange/cherry wood should be changed already too, in a nutshell, its good to think about you clients but sometimes you have to be daring, otherwise why would people continue to by a car that ranks bottom of the consumer reports reliability list every year.....they have style.

I feel like the LX570 is beautiful. Lexus shines in all categories. Styling is all opinion and they are all about maintaing good facts.....The Land Rover Range Rover is no more stylish than the LX...in fact I think the new LX is more stylish than the Range....I feel that ppl say the Range is so this is because celebs hype the Range up....They are both high end, but the lexus is more reliable, more capable, and roomier with 3 rows versus two in the Range and that is supposed to be the flagship while the midsize SUV, the LR3 has 3 rows.....how backwards.....People always say lexus is so boring but I feel that they are more stylish and their quality and reliability is unmatched by any luxury maker and they have top resale value..I just think ppl say they have boring cars because they are not all about having "Sporty cars", they are about being the best and sales and auto data shows that they are the best selling luxury company in the US, not MB, BMW, Cadillac or LAND ROVER...I would never buy a overrated, understyled and lackluster Range Rover.....I wanna buy from a company that has a strong everything including a strong future(LEXUS) unlike Land Rover who is owned by everyone...lol

this review is bias, and full of opinion. im sorry the guy who wrote this article is very ignorant. this suv will run till about 200k miles and will be serviced the same way a toyota does. ask any rover or escalade owner how often their ford or gmc made SUV is in for service... better fuel efficiency, more luxurious than the escalade (by far), and more technology than any of its competition. this car blows the others away. hands down

Oh please who cares about reliability when most vehicle owners of this caliber trade them in before the warranty is up. The are very quite and refined machines but they are just nothing to excite the eyes and take notice to them. If you are going to spend this much money on a vehicle it is to be noticed some. I rarely even notice a lexus beside me because they blend in with the rest and don't look good years down the road as they have no styling to make them classic. Also they have cushy seats but honda and toyota's interior are just plain its a endless sea of mono color plastic and black buttons and surrounds that just make them scream cheap and minimalistic inside.
