Spy photographers have caught the new 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS during testing. Chevy has been very quiet on the details of this car. The car features bigger wheels, a bigger grille and the 2.0L 260 horsepower engine from the Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line. The car seen here has very little camouflage and under the black tape you can actually make out the "SS" badge.
The car will start being produced in December of 2007 and will be introduced shortly there after. There is no word on the price.
The company recently stated that they were going to limit the number of models with the SS badge, I guess this car managed to slip through. Will the Aveo be the next SS?

260 horsepower in a compact is more than enought to warrant the SS badge.
On the 173 horsepower Cobalt it was much more questionable. And the Malibu and upcoming Equinox sport also weren't quite strong enough.

The SS badge is a joke and this thing is hideous. A cross between a PT Cruiser and a newer Dodge Durango.
Baby boomers and rednecks are on the decline so Chevy and the rest of the domestics better start making some attractive, high-quality cars to capture some of the younger market.

People with chinese tatoos and who fail to read about all of toyota's recalls are also on the decline. Also, be sure to check the news to see how unhappy Toyotas engineers are and how quickly they are quitting. Do you really think that people unhappy with their jobs will continue to create a car that is reliable. On with the recalls baby! Also, I would like to see toyota make a 430hp sports car that gets over 30mpg which the 08 Vette LS3 will do. Everything fun Toyota lucked into has been offed by the giant. Say hello to your lil friends celica and supra for me. Oh and back to Toyotas engineering supremacy that is claimed, check out the Nextel series where Toyotas flagship car the No. 55 has not been fast enough to make the past 7 races meaning he has made the field for 1 of 8 races. Also, I would like to note that the Chevrolet engine is powering 8 of the top 10 cup teams at this moment.
Anyone who believes this car should not have an SS badge should read my next sentence. This vehicle will have more hp than any Corvette from 1972 to 1991. Last time I checked a Corvette was considered pretty darn sporty?!? And for those who wish to argue about the twisties the next sentence is for you. A curb weight of 3155 lbs.... yes, check the modern mustang and then tell me which one is a pig. As for the comments about rednecks... Country music sales in the US rise more than 10% thanks to a wave of new artists, say industry sources. And another thing for the rednecks, top 2 selling vehicles in the us are still trucks not built by Toyota. Also, if its not SS enough from factory just wait til the boost gets cranked. The engine has forged crank and pistons with piston oil coolers and was tested on the NHRA circuit at 40lbs of boost, double the stock pressure.
The bottom line is that GM can put whatever they want on this car but when I buy it, debadge it, and give it a 75 shot and blow you away.... you wont be seeing any SS badges infront of you to bitch about.

i stuffed a tpi V8 into my s10 blazer and have yet to see the back end of an import during a race. of course the motor is not stock but for what it cost me to build this drive train up from front to back allowing me to make a decent 540 HP (no spray) is a fraction of what it would cost to do the same to a toyota. imagine if i juce it, and add a set of sts turbos. any import that would be able to keep up with me would be so scared to beat on that poor excuse for a wasted retirement fund, or wouldnt be able to drive it on the street because half of the parts are not D.O.T.whereas my chevrolet is still street and smog legal!

Rednecks.......HAHA i can guarantee I am far from redneck and I am pumped for this viehicle. I currently have a LT HHR and I love it. Me and my wife recently had a kid so it is the prefect mix of affordability, practicality and fun. I have looked intothis a number of time and still have yet to fid na viehicle I woudl have rather bought. The Vibe/Matric is too small and I'm not about to by a gas chuging SUV/Truck. I have to give GM props on this one. I was a previous Sunfire owner and had almost lost hope in the domestics but my HHR has totally changed my mind. The new Cobalt/Pursuit line seem to be a huge improvment fro mtyhe past.
HEHE now have to try and convice to trade in our current version for the SS ;-)
