New 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR...The Best Mustang Ever?

Ford and Shelby Automobiles announced today the launch of the new 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR. This is the most powerful Mustang ever produced and it is inspired by the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500KR.

The "King of the Road" is powered by a 5.4L supercharged V8 producing 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. of torque. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed tranny.

Ford's SVT and Racing teams teamed up with Team Shelby to recalibrate the suspension to improve the steering and handling. The show car has 20 inch rims, but the production version will only have 18 inch rims.

Ford only plans on producing 1,000 of these uber fast Mustangs when it is introduced in Spring 2008. There also will not be a convertible model and pricing has not been released. Expect something in the $50K range. The car will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show next month.

This is the best thing Ford has going for them right now. Too bad the car doesn't have an I.R.S. The car looks great!

If ford really wants to get back on the map. They should offer a product to the main stream buyer, and stop Placating to a "Small" elite market. A model like this would be a huge seller to the middle class (Middle aged) guy who wants to put something away for the weekend to take his kids for a ride. Or better yet the wife, out to get ice cream. "WHO HAS 50k , & who needs a boat. Come-on guys get with the program. I even went out and brought a Dodge truck that I have owned for 10 years that runs like a bear, because I got tired of seeing the f150 recalled so many times. Why do you think Toyota is sticking it to you so bad. I will tell you from a working class family what the American family wants in a vehicle in case your R&D guys forgot the memo. A Safe and "Reliable" and fuel efficient MV that will run numerous years with a "Good Warranty". Not 3/36. That will not work for the people we know, that need 2 checks just to get by. (Not anymore)."Stand by your product) Not like u did with the triton engine spitting spark plugs. Look how dedicated the old MB owners were. Now you cannot give away the new models (Always breaking down).Again Toyota (Lexus) is doing fine. "THEY RUN FOREVER" great residual value, like a Honda.
Ps/ My 1st car 25 years ago 69 Mach-1, will never forget , put many a muscle car of the day in their place.
From: a family still shopping for a vehicle (1yr now) , that wont deplete our 529 plans.

Ford is milking Shelby for all they can, while they can. You already can no longer say "Shelby Mustang" as there are 3 or 4 different Mustangs that have "Shelby" on them.

But to Jlab, if you're looking for something to take the kids out in...there are a plethora of Mustangs to choose from. A basic GT comes with 300 HP(plenty when you have little ones in the car)...as the kids grow, your power output can as well...Mustangs have always enjoyed a vast aftermarket world full of different choices of performance enhancing products. It's all in how fast you want to go, where you want to go and how far your pocketbook will go.

BTW, the GT500(Shelby), can easily put out more power than this "King Cobra" version with less than $1k invested.(Pulley, exhaust and a tune).

who mach would it cost new

NotForMe:

Not that long ago V-8 Mustangs were selling faster than hotcakes because they were affordable. Now if you want power you have to buy everything else as well, whether you want it or not. They make more per car, but they sell way fewer cars that way. Good for the company, but not for anybody else.

What happened to American Muscle Cars being the car of the masses? Oh, and when that was happening they weren't selling with transmissions and rears that were already at their limit and need to be replaced with the slightest power increase.

johny:

ford mustangs are the best cars

im glad ive found a site for my favourite car

thankyou for this site

gofast:

All you guys who are writing negative comments about the Shelby Mustangs are just covering the fact that you want one but can't afford it. Believe me, the GT 500 and GT 500KR are worth every penny. They are powerful, handle very well, and look great. They are classics and will increase in value through the years. So, save your money, forget the minivan, and buy one. They can smoke almost anything on the street or track.

stangtastic:

to gofast, the GT500 is definitely worth every penny, but im not so sure about the GT500KR. the GT500 and the GT500KR used to be pretty different cars, but this KR seems to be just a rehash of the GT500 with a few extra horsepower, and a different hood.
also, everyone on this page badmouthing ford or any mustang, what are you doing on this page looking at a MUSTANG? if you "know what american families need" and this doesnt happen to be it, why did you come here to tell everyone that nobody really needs it? if you prefer the Rice, then great, but people came here to look at a new model of mustang, not listen to someone trying to pitch them a Toyota.

quitwhining:

Perhaps they are on this webpage because they like how the new mustang looks, and performs, but they want others to know how badly ford does when it comes to reliability.

Remember also: Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Either live with that fact and kindly form a response, or keep your own opinion to yourself.

reliability?:

If Fords weren't reliable would taxi drivers drive them? NO
