German magazine AutoZeitung has published illustrations of what the next 2009 Volvo S40 could look like. There have been rumors that Volvo may kill the S60 model. If that happens the S40 could move slightly upmarket to fill the void left by the S60. This means the car could grow a few inches also. If this happens, the car could switch platforms from the current Ford Focus to the new Ford Mondeo platform.
These illustrations take many design cues from the XC60 SUV Concept that was recently unveiled. If these illustrations are close, the S40 could become a lot sportier than it is now and could become a great alternative to the 3-Series and new Merc C-Class.
Expect the car to come out either at the end of 2008 or early 2009.

With every new model, volvo design looks more and more like ford... so sad. Volvo design has always been great... but those ford'ish front look so ugly

people what a beautiful car. volvo did not copy ford, thay copied volvo the front is simular to the volvo xc90 bad ass car bmw audi merc and all the rest of the car manufacturers be ready to get flushed down the toilet in 2009

even though i prefer 960 and older models especially the 200 series, this look promising. i like the way they lifted the ass on the sedan there. but volvo lost a lot of its spirit when big evil company also called ford bought volvo and volvo's cars got worse :( but when i get rich im gonna buy fords share in volvo :) so... there is still hope left!

Volvo S40... the best car in the world. It's got everything you would want from a car: elegance, style, safety, power... but the new one... WOW. It will beat merc, BMW, Audi's ass. Can't wait to buy it.
