The editors over at Autoblog have discovered that Chevy is quietly ending production of the Chevy Monte Carlo. May 4th is the last day that you can order the car and production will end on June 20th at the Oshawa plant in Canada. Apparently Chevy has high hopes for the new 2008 Chevy Malibu, which is going to take up the extra capacity left by the Monte Carlo. Sales in Jan 07' were down 64.2%.
Finally Chevy decided to kill this ugly car! I don't know why they were still making it. It will be interesting to see if they use this name on a future product. Maybe a RWD coupe.

I own a 2006 Monte Carlo. I have the opposit opinion of Marc posted on 02/28/07. Great car, and I like the looks! Too bad it is on the discontinued hit list. RWD would be great, but even the front wheel drive model is outstanding. Too bad Marc is wrong, but I guess someone has to be.

I agree with George. I had a 2001 Monte Carlo and it was one of the best cars that I ever owned.

I agree with George and Tony. I am quite angry that they discontinued the Monte. I had a 2003 LS and recently upgraded to a 2006 LTZ. I LOVE this car on both its sporty racecar looks and its wonderfully smooth ride. It will be a missed model. Hopefully, they'll bring it back in the future.

I own a 2006 Monte Carlo LS and love my car. A true big sports car. Beauty describes the car and it has the power to back it up. I was very dissappointed to hear that Chev decided to stop making it. Hopefully it will be back !!

rather upset about the discontinued monte carlo, as well as this idiot's comments about this "ugly car..." if it's so ugly, then why is it one of the most common cars on the road? have an 02 black SS with black leather, GREAT car in looks and driving!!

Good riddance but for a different reason. I had a 1985, 1987 & 2001 Monte Carlo SS. The Monte Carlo was a great car and I loved my 2001. After owning it for 6 years (problem free), I had high hopes for a next generation model. What we got was the same car with an new front clip (Impala clone in front) and a new interior. GM you failed me and many other Monte Carlo owners. Unlike some of the redneck owners out there, I was not going to buy the same car I already owned for six years and pay even more for it than I did in 2001. Poor business decision to not give us a new car so after 15 years of owning Monte Carlo's, I have moved to another company since GM continues to fail the 28-35 age segment by either having expensive sports cars (Corvette) or ugly boats with poor gas mileage like the Malibu & Impala. Where is the sports sedan? The Saturn Aura is the only midsize sports sedan worth a damn from an American car company and it was designed by Opel (Germany).

own a 2003 pace car. It is Competion Yellow. It has a spoiler and the car rocks! Best car I have ever owned . Looks sport but has a v6 and great on gas mileage. Believe me, this car turns head sand I bought it as a leftover in 2004 and I only paid 17K for it.

For all of those that thought it was ugly and didn't look like the car of yesterday, because it wasn't. It was the car of today. If it looked so bad why is there so many on the roads? And why did NASCAR have it on the tracks? I have owned 4 so far in my lifetime and I happen to be one of those that ordered one of the last 2007 Monte Carlos. My husband and I both work for GM - so we knew what was going to happen to the Monte (because of sales), I will not trade that car until they decide to bring back the new one in 2010 (this is going to be a bad ass car), and then I still may decide to keep the 2007. The Monte Carlo was one of the best cars GM had out, it had the fewest problems. I hate small cars, yes I understand it, fuel mileage, I don't care I don't want it to break down all the time, I want room to move and I want horsepower. If I cared about fuel, I wouldn't drive an SUV or an HD Diesel. The writer of the above story must drive the Fiat Strada.

Chevy has broken my heart with this one. First the Caprice Classics, and now the Monte Carlo's. Last of a dying breed. Thats why when I get rid of my 03 Monte Carlo, I am getting a 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. As long as I am driving an American made muscle car, the spirit of the Monte Carlo continues on.......Get out the way!!!

I just found out (right at this moment) that the Monte Carlo was discontinued. I was on the phone last night talking with my friend who is a car buff and I told him that I really wanted to get one. So, I got on the internet just now and went to Chevrolet's official website and was a little disturbed because I didn't see the car. I went to one of the dealer site's, still no luck. I finally went to google and was routed here!!!! I fell in love with the Monte Carlos when my aunt had her "73 model. I have always that with the right tire and rims and tinted windows the newer ones would be hot!!!!!

We have owned a Monte Carlo for 6 years, and we LOVE our car. It gets great gas mileage, 28-31 miles per gallon. We get so many comments on how sharp of a car it is. I wouldn't trade my Monte Carlo for anything. It only has 39,000 miles on it, and it sits in the garage.
I can't believe anyone would say it's an UGLY car! They must be looking at something different than what I'm driving! It's a shame they're not going to make it any more.
I personally think the Malibu is one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen! Just had to put that 2 cents worth in!

The Monte has died again! The Monte has NASCAR heritage, but in 1973 it was developed to challenge the European elite...it did so and was named Motor Trends Car of the Year. With that being sad, I'm hoping for the next Monte to be aimed at destroying the BMW, Acura, Lexus and ect with innovative powerplants, world class handling characteristics, at 3/4 the cost with an exterior that hints of its heritage, but still "new". I'm ok with a shorter wheel base, as long as interior room is adequate. I'd be really excited with it being lightened up, but don't lose that big car comfort. I'm one of the few MC fans out here that would say do away with the required V8. I want a world class turbo/supercharged 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder that gets the kids to school at 22 mpg, blasts off to 60 in 4.5 secs/qtr mile in the mid 13s and cruises the interstate getting 32 mpg. I do want it to feel like I'm sitting in my recliner...pie in the sky hopes, but if GM puts it on the road, it would really impact that under 35 market...and at less than $35K be a bargin vs the fore mentioned imports. I've owned a 72, 73 S, 88, 06 SS. I still have the 73 and 06.
