2009 Toyota Blade

Toyota's next Matrix will not be named the Matrix. The automaker is going to target the Mazda 3 five-door for the new car. It will still be based off the Corolla platform, but will adopt the name "Blade" that is currently used in Japan.

The car is also rumored to get more power too. Most likely the 2.4L 4-cyl that they are putting in the new Scion xB.

Hopefully the new car will look much better than the current Matrix.

more aerodynamic, minumum engine and road noise, most fuel efficient ..! This is what I expect ..

FXi:

2.4l and AWD would be good.

Rumour is that it's going to get smaller in the new version, which may not be very popular.

The new Nissan Rogue (which is midway between the Matrix and the RAV4) is probably going to eat the Blade alive in the marketplace, but we'll see. Certainly Toyota is in no rush to compete and we see the sales numbers declining to show it.

Any idea where the blade is being built?

Talbott:

They're going to keep the Matrix name for N.A. too - at least that's what my source told me this week.
