Mazda has just released a few photos of the new 2008 Mazda 2. The new car will be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, in March. There have been lots of rumors surrounding this car's release in the U.S., especially after Mazda showed the MX Micro Sport Concept at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show.
The car will initially be offered with three engines: 1.3L 75 or 84 Hp and 1.5L with 103Hp.
After the success of the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Chevy Aveo in the U.S. many automakers are trying to enter this segment.
This car looks far better than the Yaris and Fit. Hopefully they will give it decent power if it comes to the U.S.

Hopefully it is at least as fuel efficient as Toyota Yaris. If only they made a diesel version of it...

Current model 2s top off with Mazda's 1.5L, not including Ford's lower hp 1.6L. Mazda/Ford and company are working on a modern diesel design. I suspect it may find it's way to the 3.

This is a fabulous car.
Sporty, good looking, (im sure handling is great) and if you include a decent diesel engine, this could be one of the best economy cars to grace the US.
Mazda, if you are reading this.. PLEASE bring it to the US!.

Just came back from Costa Rica and I was surprised by the variety of subcompact cars not available to us...
Not only the great Mazda 2 but also the Yaris 5 doors not available here yet.
Of course they have Citroens, Peugeots, Fiats, etc. that we are also denied.
We have to settle for Hummers, Silverados and other cars.
We will waiting for the $ 5.00 a gallon gas.
